Family Peer Advocate
RESPONSIBILITIES

A Family Peer Advocate (FPA) provides an array of formal and informal services and supports to families whose child is experiencing social, emotional, developmental, substance use and/or behavioral challenges. This includes but is not limited to providing families with outreach in information on community resources and services; serving as a bridge between families and community providers; assisting families in expressing their needs, strengths, and goals; and supporting a productive and respectful partnership, along with advocating on behalf of and in collaboration with the family, to ensure the family’s needs are being met. This is a 40 hour a week position with flexed hours depending on the family’s needs.

Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Must meet the requirements to apply for a Provisional Parents Empowering Parents (PEP) credential or already be credentialed. Applicants must have lived experience as a primary caregiver, caregiver meaning you are raising or have raised, a child or adolescent with significant social, emotional, behavioral mental health or developmental needs to qualify for PEP credential. Other requirements: Reliable, insured and registered transportation; Clean/valid driver’s license; Clearance from the State Central Registry; Clearance from the NYS Justice Center fingerprint/background clearance; Ability to work independently; Solid verbal, written and technology skills; Strong organization and time management skills; Comfortable traveling to and working in families’ homes and communities

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

Parents or Guardians who has or have had a child with
• behavioral, emotional, or mental health challenges (including ADHD)
• an intellectual or developmental disabilities (including Autism)
• an IEP special education services

AND you have ever successfully advocated for that child in
• Children's Mental Health Systems
• Schools or other Educational Placements
• Child Welfare Systems
• Residential Placements

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $18.13 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
