We are seeking a motivated, dedicated, hardworking individual to join our team as a Ro...ad Laborer/Mechanic.Position Overview:As a Road Laborer/Mechanic, you will play a dual role in the Public Works Department. This position involves performing road maintenance and repair tasks while also handling mechanical maintenance and repairs of our vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate will have a blend of hands-on experience in roadwork and mechanical skills to keep our equipment in top working condition.Key Responsibilities:Road Maintenance· Assist in the maintenance, repair, and construction of township roads, sidewalks, and drainage systems.· Perform tasks such as pothole patching, curb setting, road grading, and shoulder maintenance.· Operate and maintain road maintenance equipment, including trucks, loaders, snow plows, and paving machines.· Assist with the installation and repair of street signs, road markings, and traffic control devices.· Conduct routine inspections of roads and report any issues or hazards to supervisor.· Participate in winter road operations.· Respond to emergency situations related to road conditions and provide support as needed.Mechanical Maintenance· Perform routine maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment including, trucks, loads, and other machinery.· Diagnose mechanical issues and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.· Ensure all equipment is properly serviced and maintained according to manufacturer specifications.· Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.· Order and manage inventory of parts and supplies needed for repairs.General· Ensure that all work is performed according to safety standards and guidelines.· Collaborate effectively with other team members and follow instructions from supervisor.· Maintain accurate records of work performed and report any issues or concerns to supervisor.· Assist in special projects as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:· High school diploma or GED.· Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials and working in various weather conditions.· Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair various types of equipment.· Strong work ethic and reliability.· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and communicate effectively.· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.· Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL within one year of employment.· Ability to earn Class 7 Vehicle Safety Inspection Certification within one year of employment.Preferred Qualifications:· Certification or coursework in automotive or diesel mechanics.· Previous experience in road maintenance, construction, or a similar field.· Basic knowledge of road maintenance procedures and equipment.· Valid Pennsylvania Class A CDL· Current Class 7 Vehicle Safety Inspection Certification.Physical Requirements:· Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.· Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform tasks that may involve bending, kneeling, or climbing.· Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.Benefits:· Excellent, competitive salary based on experience.· Generous health, dental, and vision insurance.· Paid time off and holidays.· Generous Defined Contribution Pension Plan and voluntary 457(b) offering.· Opportunities for professional development and training.How to Apply:Interested candidates should submit a resume and/or employment application to Assistant Township Manager Katie Churchill at kchurchill@uwchlan.com.
