Essential Duties:
• Greets citizens in person or via telephone to provide a timely exchange of information or service referrals.
• Maintains an effective working relationship with other employees and the public providing excellent customer service.
• Receives and processes applications for building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical permits, and certificates of occupancy in accordance with City ordinance.
• Receives and processes applications for sign permits, alarm system permits, amusement device permits, solicitor's permits, house moving permits, day care licenses, garage sale permits, and block party permits and maintains files in accordance with City ordinance.
• Receives and processes applications for license and/or registration from electricians, plumbers, mechanical and general contractors in accordance with City ordinance.
• Organizes and maintains a current update of inspection activities within the current permitting software program.
• Provides information to contractors, sub-contractors, and the general public pertaining to permits, licenses, registration and other information.
• Maintains and processes records for the Public Works department.
• Provides administrative support to the Public Works Superintendents by screening calls, processing mail, typing and compiling data and on other matters as needed.
• Maintains files and documentation on all Water and Sewer tap fees.
• Maintains license and inspection records.
• Participates in maintaining monthly and annual activity reports, including waste generator, false alarm, permits and related areas.
• Handles, collects, and reconciles cash draw and completes end of the day closing processes.
• May perform other assignments and handle special projects, as assigned or required.

SCOPE OF SUPERVISION
• Works under general supervision of the Assistant Director of Public Works/Building Official.

Qualifications:

Education, Training and Experience Guidelines High School diploma or equivalent; AND two (2) years of customer service office experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience in City government or other related industry preferred. Type 50 WPM.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
-Possession of a valid Texas driver’s license
-Notary Public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a traditional office environment. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of Federal, State and City laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, and codes governing Public Works operations, practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of city practice, policy, and procedures.
• Skilled and proficient in the following programs - MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
• Skill in handling multiple tasks, planning and prioritizing.
• Skilled in oral and written communication.
• Skilled in conducting research and preparing reports with correspondence.
• Skilled in providing exceptional customer service in person, by email and by telephone.
• Ability to understand and work with the current permitting software.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a commission as a Notary Public.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other City departments, vendors, and the general public.
• Ability to understand and uphold provisions of the City Home Rule Charter, ordinances, and resolutions.
• Ability to provide administrative assistance requiring the use of independent judgment, confidentiality, tact, and discretion.
• Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.44 - $21.81 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
