Job Description

The Environment Officer plays a key role in the development, review and reporting of the Rottnest Islands Conservation Management Strategies and the implementation of the associated research, monitoring and operational programs.

The environment officer is responsible for:
• Development and implementation of conservation programs, including the Terrestrial Conservation Action Plan, Marine Conservation Action Plan, Weed management, five year revegetation plan
• Provides advice and support to the Manager of Environment and Compliance and other specialist services covering conservation, protection and restoration of the reserves marine and terrestrial environment to meet statutory and strategic goals
• Coordinating fauna response and management
• Management of Operations Officers, work planning and activities.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should... address the following essential criteria. These should be addressed in no more than 3 pages in total.
• Considerable understanding of, and experience in, the preparation and delivery of operational conservation management programs with a focus on biodiversity conservation and natural resource management outcomes.
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills including good influencing skills and ability to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Proven ability to manage small projects including scoping, budget, and reporting, to deliver planned outputs within budget and timeframe.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams including supervising and supporting team members to achieve results.

The following essential criteria will be assessed at some stage during the selection process.
• Strong analytical skills including ability to interpret relevant data and apply regulations and legislation.
• Ability to undertake research, develop and implement programs relating to biodiversity conservation.
• Understanding and experience in applying occupational health and safety in an operational environment.
• Knowledge and experience in GIS and data management software.

The following desirable criterion will be assessed as required.
• A tertiary qualification in Environment management, Sustainability or equivalent.

Note: The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current (issue date not older than 6 months) and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.

AND

The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current Working With Children Check card prior to commencement.
