This position provides expert advice, guidance, and assistance to managers to facilitate the implementation and alignment with the Corporate Health and Safety Management System and compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation. As a subject matter expert, this position supports the enhancement of a positive health and safety culture.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Mentors, guides, and provides technical advice to stakeholders on health & safety concerns/ situations to ensure all work is completed in a safe manner.
2. As a subject matter expert, assists in the development, maintenance, implementation and assessment (auditing) of the Corporate Health and Safety Management system, policies and programs to enhance the culture of safety and ensure compliance with... legislation.
3. Ensures the utilization of effective investigation procedures for all incidents and dangerous occurrences. Acts as the investigation coordinator for serious incidents. Recommends appropriate corrective actions.
4. Assist in the establishment and utilization of a processes to record all safety related training records and reports; including a process to ensure that employees are properly trained for their duties.
5. Facilitates the determination and prioritization of health and safety issues and initiatives within the wider context of business processes and external regulatory, market and societal influences.
6. Provides Health and Safety guidance based on technical knowledge supplemented by analysis of evidence, experience and critical thought. Coaches management and employees to ensure all work is assessed and provides subject matter expertise to Occupational Health Committees.
7. Coaches and guide stakeholders to ensures all Occupational health & safety regulatory processes are followed
8. Collaborates with members of department to develop, implement, maintain and monitor HR and corporate initiatives and ensures that all initiatives and day-to-day duties are linked to and consistent with the Corporate Strategic Plan. Participates in cross-functional HR teams, taking a one-team approach to HR initiatives.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
• Degree in a related field, supplemented by successful completion of courses in occupational health and safety.
• Four to six years' progressively responsible experience in development and implementation of health and safety initiatives.
• CRSP or CPHR Designation would be considered an asset.
• Considerable knowledge of civic policy and provincial legislation pertaining to occupational health and safety, workers’ compensation and the duty to accommodate.
• Considerable knowledge of health and safety auditing processes and procedures.
• Demonstrated ability and skill in utilizing intervention techniques to address unsafe behaviour or conditions
• Demonstrated ability to plan, design and present safety-related training programs.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct investigations, determine hazardous conditions and take corrective action.
• Ability to exercise a high degree of initiative, innovation and ability to work independently.
• Ability to work with highly confidential and sensitive information/evidence, exercising sound judgement to make decisions in complex and confidential situations, behaving at all times with tact, integrity and diplomacy.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with management, co-workers, union representatives and external agencies.
• Skill in consulting, facilitating, conflict resolution and decision-making.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including the ability to prepare and present presentations of a specialized nature
• Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
• Current driver’s abstract demonstrating a safe driving record
Weekly Hours: 40
Salary Range: $94,834.80 to $111,430.80 CAD per annum (2022 rates)
