Activities Co-ordinator

We are seeking applications for the position of an Activities Co-ordinator for a permanent full-time role.

The Activities Co-ordinator is a pivotal post with responsibility to provide person centred, therapeutic and recreational activities to adults and older persons with severe and enduring mental health needs.

The Activities Co-ordinator will work closely with the nursing, care and multi-disciplinary team to promote each residents well-being and quality of life through our therapeutic and recreational activities programme.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have completed a QQI Level 5 (8 modules) in Healthcare or equivalent and will have a minimum of 6 months experience as an Activities Co-ordinator; Occupational Therapy Assistant; or Healthcare Assistant. Previous experience in a... psychiatric environment is an advantage.

Hours of Work

The role operates over 7 days and will entail working 39 hours per week over 5 of the 7 days between the hours of 8am and 8pm. The hours will be agreed with the Director of Nursing or designate and the Clinical Nurse Manager. The role will require availability to work bank holidays.

Salary Scale:

The salary scale rages from €15.50 – €17.50 based on previous experience relating to this role.

Job Purpose

The Activities Co-ordinator will work closely with the nursing, care and multi-disciplinary team to ensure that each resident has their needs met and live the best possible life they can, with their well-being and quality of life promoted. The Activities Co-ordinator role is to promote residents’ well-being and provide activities both therapeutic and recreational as per resident’s needs.

Key Responsibilities

· To develop a professional rapport with residents.

· To ensure that residents are greeted and welcomed to participate in activities that are appropriate to them.

· To obtain information from residents and/or their families regarding their interests and skills.

· To plan an activities programmes collaboratively with individual patients.

· To organise, supervise and implement therapeutic and recreational programmes for the patients.

· To plan, supervise and accompany patients on appropriate outings.

· To engage patients in both group and individual activities as deemed appropriate.

· To observe general behaviour, ability and response from residents and document the information in the resident’s care plan as well as communicating to the ward staff and wider MDT team.

· To take part in the audit process in relation to recreational and activity programmes.
