The Marine & Coastal team in Ireland work on various public and private projects for contractors, county councils, developers, port owners and operators. We have consulted and designed ports with diverse needs, including Dubai Port, Aqaba New Port, Dublin Port masterplan, Greenore and Lowestoft Port FEED in the UK, delivering next-generation port infrastructure.

These complex engineering projects require expertise in regulation and permitting, maritime and port operations... structural and geotechnical engineering, site investigations, marine ecology, dredging and reclamation, project management, contract administration and site supervision. We offer our clients a range of our in-house expertise in various specialist areas, including modelling, flooding, ecology, marine biology, geotechnics, geomorphology, hydraulics, navigation, dredging & reclamation, and aquaculture.

Key Responsibilities:
• Working with the Senior Directors to strategically grow disciplines of interest and opportunity
• Significant input in the direction of the regional growth of the Irish marine team in terms of market sectors and areas
• Works independently, calling on experts as required, to deliver designs
• Ability to manage and mentor teams of junior engineers
• Ensures all marine designs are in accordance with set standards and all recommendations are robust, value-based and commissionable
• Ensures that designs are delivered on time to our clients and that the design fulfils the client’s brief
• Inspects structures and construction work and ensures that all aspects of design are correctly implemented
• Develops and takes responsibility for technical design solutions in a marine environment
• Monitors processes and results and ensures that they comply with relevant safety, legal, ethical and regulatory requirements
• Ability to make appropriate judgements and decisions and exercise initiative
• Ability to prepare tender documentation
• Where opportunities permit and subject to specific requirements, lead any number of project-based resources in countries outside of Ireland
• Management of all work in compliance with ByrneLooby’s Integrated Management System (IMS)

Requirements:
• Experience in the design and inspection of marine structures (ports, marinas, harbours, weirs, lock gates, pontoons etc)
• 10+ years engineering consulting or civil/marine contracting industry experience
• Experience of working in Ireland and the UK
• Experienced & confident with report writing and presentation skills
• Broad experience in marine structural design, coastal processes design, numerical modelling studies and an understanding of environmental engineering and permitting requirements
