General Description and Classification Standards

Defines, designs and implements network communications and solutions. This is a fully seasoned professional level (Senior level) capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the profession with limited guidance or review. This level would be considered a promotional level and attainable by any incumbents in a work group who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, ability and performance. Supervision Received Works under very general supervision. Depending on organization structure, may work independently with responsibility for an assigned function or program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators. Sets up administrator and service accounts. Maintains system documentation. Tunes system performance. Installs system wide software and allocates mass storage space. Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products. Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software and coordinates installation and back up recovery. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related the use of computing resources. Provides training to other employees.

Decision Making

Selects from multiple procedures and methods to accomplish tasks. May make purchasing or resource allocation decisions within organization guidelines. Applies organizational policies. May interpret organizational policies and recommend exceptions. Establishes work methods, timetables, performance standards, etc. Leadership Provided Routinely provides work group leadership, guidance, and/or training to less experienced staff. Serves as a technical resource or mentor to other employees. May lead or instruct less experienced workers in high level or technical jobs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list. Skills in organizing and presenting information, proposals etc. Ability to plan and carry out virtually all typical assignments within network administration. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis). 5 years of specific network experience.

Preferred Education & Experience

Master’s degree in computer science or engineering with 5-8 years' of directly related professional work. Licensures and Certifications None required.
