Lake Illawarra High School is a comprehensive high school situated on the foreshores of Lake Illawarra on the traditional lands of the Wadi Wadi tribe.
In 2023, we have a mainstream enrolment of 569 students, with 23% (129 students) identifying as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background.
The school is also home to the 'Harbour Centre... a special education unit, which caters for 53 students and has two ED classes, one IM class, two MC classes and one Autism class, and will soon cater for an additional internalisers (ED) class.
Lake Illawarra High School has a FOEI of 149 in 2023. At Lake Illawarra High School, we cater for a wide range of student abilities and as a result offer an extensive curriculum and many opportunities to engage in extracurricular activities.
The school provides on demand technology to maximise learning opportunities and industry standard facilities for vocational training.
The staff at Lake Illawarra High School utilise quality teaching practices, in a safe, secure and well-managed environment, in order to provide an excellent standard of education.

Lake Illawarra High is also a member of the Illawarra Academy of STEM Excellence which allows our students to engage with a wide range of industry partners.
The school has a CLONTARF Academy which provides ongoing support and the provision of opportunities in many areas for our Aboriginal boys.
Lake Illawarra High is a member of the Lake Learning Community and works together with both our feeder primary schools and our community to sustain a culture of effective, evidence -based teaching for ongoing improvement and to support the learning and wellbeing of students as they transition from primary to high school.
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Demonstrated expertise in leading staff to develop and implement flexible and innovative learning programs designed to enhance student engagement and support the wellbeing needs of students with additional learning and support needs.
2. Demonstrated experience in leading the successful transitions for students with a range of disabilities.
3. Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills with the proven capacity to engage all stakeholders in the delivery of individualised educational programs for students with a disability.
4. Demonstrated ability to support the complex needs of students with a diverse range of needs within a comprehensive high school.
General Selection Criteria1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice 2.
Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs 3.
Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams 4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents 5.
Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning 6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policiesConditions
