The role will be r eporting to the Lead Engineer - Mineral Residue Facilities Job Description : The purpose of the role is to provide discipline leadership at Business Unit and Operational level in the planning, design and execution of mineral residue facilities and ensure leading industry best practice is in place to achieve effective Mineral Residue and Water management, leading ultimately towards successful and sustainable closure. The role is based in Anglo American’s Santiago corporate offices with travel to South American Copper operations. Key Responsibilities : Ensure... that global leading safety and sustainable development practices are identified, considered and implemented in mineral residue management and projects in Anglo American, with the principal focus on the Anglo American Copper operations within South America. Provide assistance, monitoring and reports on the implementation of mineral residue related standards, inclusive of the roll-out and implementation of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management at Anglo American and and Non-managed Joint Venture operations and ensure conformance at business unit level. Provide BUs with mineral residue guidance on planning, design, procurement, construction, operational and closure aspects on an on-going basis, based on findings from review of mineral residue sites and lessons learnt. Provide input to develop and update technical standards and guiding documents, where applicable, and review the mineral residue disposal facilities and water retaining dams / return water dams in mining and processing operations for reliability, environmental impact, safety, integrity, suitability and capacity to meet licence/permit requirements, production targets and closure requirements on a safe and sustainable basis. Support the risk management process over the full life cycle of the mineral residue facilities Qualifications An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in degree in Geotechnical Engineering Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience in design and management of tailings facilities Desirable : A postgraduate qualification (Masters / Doctoral degree or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline OR a proven track record of extensive practical experience in a role and context of similar complexity Role-specific knowledge : Strong planning, design and operational experience applied to tailings dams and water dams for the Mining industry Awareness of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) and national/international guidelines (ANCOLD, ICOLD, MAC, CDA, USBR) Demonstrated experience in project management, strategic planning and geotechnical analysis Track record of successful liaising and dealing at senior levels with suppliers, JV Partners, regulatory bodies, community stakeholders, research institutions and industry associations Preferably has worked in a large complex matrix structured organisation **Additional Information What We Offer**: Competitive salary and benefits package Amazing opportunities for learning and growth - from technical training to leadership programs, we bring out the best in our people Working within a close-knit internal network, the Mineral Residue Facility team , of tailings professionals and industry experts to contribute to the successful stewardship and governance Be part of a significant portfolio of tailings and water storage facilities across a large business whilst extending your professional development and experience.
