BASIC FOCUS: We are seeking a mental Health Therapist to join our team and provide comprehensive mental health services to our clients. The Mental Health Therapist will be responsible for providing counseling for victims of child abuse and their families. Works with and provides consultation to all members of the multidisciplinary team. Participates in multidisciplinary case staffing and makes referrals to, and consults with, outside agencies in regards to the counseling of child victims seen at the agency.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assess child victims and their family’s mental health needs. Schedules and conducts individual and family counseling with CAC clientele.

Maintains a caseload of 20-25 clients and conducts an average of 20-25 therapy sessions per full working week.

Prepares and maintains records related to client care and workload.

Facilitate support/therapy groups, both child and parent (depending on need and availability) on a regular and consistent schedule.

Administers assessment tools and provides evaluation data, that may include a DSM

V diagnosis. Conducts trauma assessment at the beginning of treatment as well as at the end, and analyzes data for effectiveness of services.

Develops and maintains professional relationships with community mental health partners and obtains and collects relevant information on the counseling of CAC children and their families.

Meet with CAC staff for internal case review, when necessary, prior to each MDT meeting, and provides insight and expertise during case review as well as pertinent case information.

Works with Family Advocate on assignment of clients for therapy as well as outside referrals.

Respond to subpoenas and provide court testimony as necessary.

Avails self of training opportunities either at the agency or at workshops and conferences and maintains requirements to keep licensure current.

Additional Responsibilities:
• Other duties as assigned by the Clinical Therapy Coordinator and Executive Director.
• Display a professional and positive attitude and acts as a supportive team member.
• Participate in fund raising events and community awareness events.
• General office management.

SPECIAL ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE:

1. TF-CBT certification to be completed within one year of employment.

2. Experience with diverse cultures, languages, and situations.

3. Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.

4. Experience working with children and families in crisis.

5. Knowledge of and experience in working with child abuse issues.

6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

8. Have proficiency in using computers.

9. Bilingual (Spanish/English) abilities highly desirable but not required.

10. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.

11. Demonstrate ability to advocate for the needs of the clients.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in Mental Health/Social Services required and current license to practice counseling/social work in the state of Texas. Experience in child abuse and neglect dynamics as well as possessing an understanding of criminal justice procedures. The ability to relate to children and adolescents in a nurturing, supportive manner and to parents and caregivers in a non-judgmental, empathy, compassionate, and encouraging manner. Able to manage potentially explosive situations.

Interact with other professionals and co-workers in a spirit of cooperation and mutual commitment to the goals of delivering the best possible services to the victims of child abuse and or violent crime.

Because of the importance of the therapeutic relationship to the client, a 30-day notice of resignation is requested of all counselors.

THIS IS A GRANT FUNDED POSITION THAT IS PROJECTED TO BE ONGOING. SALARY

WILL TO BE COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE; EXCELLENT BENEFITS ARE

AVAILABLE.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $46,000.00 per year
