Position Summary
Michigan State University operates FRIB as a user facility for the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC), supporting the mission of the DOE-SC Office of Nuclear Physics.
As one of 28 DOE-SC user facilities, FRIB provides researchers with one of the most advanced tools of modern science to study rare isotopes, or short-lived nuclei not normally found on Earth. FRIB hosts what is designed to be the most powerful heavy-ion accelerator, enabling scientists to make discoveries about the properties of rare isotopes, nuclear astrophysics, fundamental interactions, and applications for society, including in medicine, homeland security, and industry.
The establishment of FRIB was funded by the DOE-SC,Michigan State University (MSU) (https://msu.edu/) , and theState of Michigan (https://www.michigan.gov/) , and user facility operation is supported by theDOE-SC Office of Nuclear Physics (https://www.energy.gov/science/np/nuclear-physics) . Since 2010, MSU’s nuclear physics graduate program is ranked No. 1 in the nation, according to U.S. News and World Report’s rankings of graduate programs.

Purpose
Perform independent complex professional support to the University research enterprise by providing services in Pre-Award and Post-Award Administration, Research Administration, Project Close Out, or Research Compliance and Training.
Major Duties/Responsibilities
• Facilitate assistance to Principal Investigators with searches for new funding opportunities, and proactively inform Principal Investigators about upcoming federal grant deadlines.
• Provide project, grant and budget development assistance, including proposal writing, project review, budget development and budget justification, and coordinate a timely proposal submission process while ensuring quality proposals and appropriate approvals.
• Assist in negotiations with sponsors on basic research budgets, and coordinate support to Principal Investigators to meet regulatory requirements with respect to submission.
• Ensure contract execution account setup and activation.
• Provide post-award administration of grants and contacts, monitor ongoing financials and budgets for accuracy, and facilitates the administration of research projects in accordance with applicable regulations.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of federal laws and regulations including MSU Federal/State Cost Policy
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and deliver high quality support to the team in a timely manner
• Established problem solving skills
• Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively and credibly, both verbally and in writing with all audiences.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business administration, Finance, or a research-related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research administration including the area of pre- or post-award processes, or related field such as regulatory administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This job requires completion of Essentials of Research Administration (MSU Certificate) or equivalent within one year of hire.
Desired Qualifications
• Knowledge of federal laws and regulations including MSU Federal/State Cost Policy
• Research administration experience (DOE/NSF)
• Experience with ERP systems (like EBS and IFS)
• Knowledge of University policies and practices
• Technical aptitude to pick up new software with limited support and training
