Job Summary:
This intermediate level position supports the data needs for a wide range of hydrodynamic and water quality modeling projects designed to protect natural resources and support Florida’s growth by ensuring the sustainable use of Florida’s water.
Job duties include:
• Determines data needs for model development using GIS data, meteorological data, ground water data, hydrologic and water quality data; performs QA/QC on time series data for the development of input files needed for hydrodynamic and water quality modeling; develops and documents customized programming scripts (R, python) to streamline data retrieval, processing and formatting of time series data for modeling; maintains meteorological and water quality databases required for modeling.
• Assists in developing and conducting water quantity and quality projects; defines needs for meteorological, GIS, hydrodynamic, and water quality data to improve spatial and temporal scale of modeling efforts and simulation accuracy; assesses quality of existing data, including performing analyses to evaluate alternative sources of data; conducts statistical data analysis and data modeling; reviews literature pertaining to present and past studies or projects.
• Provides technical assistance for other modelers; reviews work and reports, and assists with project organization and scheduling; prepares scopes of work for contractual projects; reviews scopes of work of contractors.
• Prepares, writes, and reviews technical reports from within and outside of SJRWMD; performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in oceanography, geology, hydrology, coastal or civil engineering or related field and one-year professional experience in geology, hydrology, coastal, oceanography or related field.
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in oceanography, geology or hydrology can substitute for the required experience.
Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
Additional Details:
Salary Range: $49,961.60 ~ $62,441.60
Starting salary is based on qualifications and experience.
