About the Department:

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at North Carolina State University is recognized as one of the premier national and international academic and research programs. The Department contains 24 tenure/tenure-track faculty members, 2 teaching faculty and 4 research staff, 15 postdoctoral research scholars, and about 300 graduate and undergraduate students.
The faculty perform cutting-edge research, teach and provide international leadership in multiple areas of materials research, including electronic, dielectric, optical, magnetic, and structural materials, metallurgy, nanoscience/nanotechnology, soft matter, biological materials, structural characterization, and computational materials.
Essential Job Duties:

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Teaching Professor. This is a full time position with a 9 month appointment and an expected classroom teaching load of 9 credit hours per semester. The Assistant Teaching Professor is expected to have appropriate office hours and participate in committee work related to one of more of the following: materials science and engineering curriculum development, student recruiting, new engineering education pedagogy, applications of modern technologies to engineering education, public science and engineering outreach. Teaching assignments will be courses within the Materials Science and Engineering primarily at the undergraduate level. The position will report to both the Director of Undergraduate Education and the Department Head.

This position requires an on-campus presence for lectures and office hours to effectively perform the essential duties of the position.

There may be additional administrative duties assigned, dependent upon candidate’s qualifications.

PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field.
