Hays is currently partnered with one of the world's leading exporters, located in Geelong, to recruit a Chief Accountant for a permanent position.
Your new role
This role will, in liaison with the Regional Financial Manager and the Head of Group Accounting and Consolidation, the Chief Accountant owns the Group and Statutory accounts, manage the execution of the Accounting operations, ensure compliance with the group requirements and local regulations. The incumbent will ensure appropriate level of internal control and drive accounting process improvement.
Responsibilities will include:
• Prepare and co-ordinate monthly financial reports and half year/annual financial statements according to deadlines and requirements.
• Ensure the integrity of accounting records for completeness, accuracy and compliance with accepted accounting policies and principles
• Own, together with the Regional Financial Manager, the financial statements such as balance sheet... profit-and-loss, cash flow and related supplementary reporting schedules/charts
• Ensuring balance sheet reviews and reconciliations are performed in a timely manner for all accounts
• Managing the year-end audit
• Support the Regional Financial Manager and Business Analyst in building projection scenarios (Long Term Plan, Budget, Forecast)
• Support any request/project for which accounting data as required
• Manage daily accounting activities (AP, AR and Cash Collection, FA, GL…) in a timely and accurate way
• Forecast and manage local treasury and liquidity in liaison with the Group team.
• With the support of external tax agents and the MEANZ Regional Financial Manager, oversee all tax corporate and transfer price policy.
• Ensure compliance with and act in accordance with organisational Occupational Health and Safety Policy and procedures at all times
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role, you will have:
• Qualified Accountant preferred. Requires education generally equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting.
• Five to seven years’ experience in accounting
• Sound technical accounting knowledge with the ability to question and interpret results and seek answers that appropriately justify results.
• Knowledge and understanding of GAAP for Australia and ideally New Zealand
• Knowledge of tax rules applicable in Australia and ideally New Zealand and required filings
• Understanding of internal control principles
• Hard working, self-motivated and able to work under pressure to ensure deadlines are met
• Positive “problem solving” attitude, with a focus on continuous improvement
• A confident and organised individual with strong analytical skills
• Team player, but able to work autonomously
• Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently
• Good management, communication and relationship building skills
• Able to communicate effectively at all levels (management and operating team, , HR, Group team and external contacts such as banks, auditors and consultants)
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications with intermediate to advanced Excel skills required
• Experience in a production company is preferred
• Experience with SAP ECC FICO ERP highly regarded
• Experience with Hyperion is a plus
