About the company
TowerCo of Africa (TOA) is a young and rapidly growing TowerCo company focusing on communications tower infrastructure business. TOA, a part of the Telecom Cluster within the Axian Group, is building a portfolio of TowerCo’s across Africa. TOA currently operates in two countries (Madagascar and Uganda) and is in the process of starting in a further two countries (Tanzania and DR Congo). Currently TOA operates approx. 2,000 towers, and by the end of 2023 this will grow to approx. 2,700 towers. TOA expects to continue to continue to grow rapidly, in current and new markets.
About the role
We are currently looking for our Geo-marketing Design Engineer, to provide strategic and operational support in the area of TOA geo-marketing.
The role reports to the TOA Group Chief Operations Officer (COO) and fits in the group structure as depicted in the below hierarchy... map.
Overview of responsibilities
The main mission will be to proactively investigate site rollout opportunities, on behalf of TOA operating companies, that can be marketed to MNOs through a “push” channel. The push channel will augment the normal “pull” channel whereby MNOs will approach TOA for site Build-To-Suit (BTS) or colocation.
Furthermore, the role will involve development of site and geo-planning tools that will help TOA customers self-assess suitability of TOA sites for their rollout needs, through a privileged access portal.
The role will include all building up the necessary ecosystem of tools and data to enable central geo-planning on behalf of TOA operating companies.
Essential duties and responsibilities include
1 – Build a work-class TowerCo geo-marketing environment
• Identify software tools and systems to support geo-planning and proactive geo-marketing of TOA sites
• Work with internal/external stakeholders to gather datasets required to conduct effective geo-marketing activities
• Work with internal/external stakeholders to localise geo-marketing plans, to maximise the opportunity of BTS and colocation of TOA towers
2 – Drive for outcomes
• Define systems and processes for data exchange and collaboration with operating companies and TOA customers that will enrich the geo-planning ecosystem and enable targeted and optimized plans
• Review and validate plans and proposals prepared by TOA operating companies, and provide critique and guidance for evolution and improvement of such plans
• Provide plans (pro-active or otherwise) on behalf of, or in conjunction with, TOA operating companies, that maximize business outcomes for TOA (drive up colocation, increase portfolio of towers)
3 – People management
• Work with internal stakeholders in the operating companies to ensure that data is made available, requirements are communicated, such that proactive plans and proposals can be prepared
• Ensure that the Local Operation team have the adequate trainings to support the geo-marketing process
4 – Budget Control
• Participate in budget planning as required for verification of sites planning
Qualification, Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
1 – Qualifications
• Undergraduate degree in an appropriate field of Geography or Engineering (Electrical, Communications)
2 – Experience
• 7+ years’ experience Telecom RF Network Planning
• Deep experience GIS tools/Radio Planning tools
• Experience working in a Group structure is beneficial
3 – Skills & Languages
• Excellent tracking & reporting skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of cultures and different types of expertise
• Ability to actively make decisions in a prompt manner, always seeking positive results to employees and the organization
• Influencing capabilities to embrace change and make it happen
• High adaptation to different cultures, a changing environment and changing challenges
• Ability to thrive in a startup environment with high levels of workplace change
• Ability to handle high workload and manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
• Fluency in English is mandatory, and with ability to communicate in French being a strong additional plus
