Position Summary

Reed Smith is assembling one of the biggest data analytics programs in the legal market, which complements our investments in our new Innovation Lab and our Applied AI team focused primarily on Generative AI. We have worked with our executive leadership to create a roadmap of use cases focused on creating strategic insights related to our clients, lawyers, risk, business opportunities, and global growth. We have constructed an impressive data warehouse and underlying business systems, but we are still building out our full team to mature our data analytics platform. Therefore, this position will be a key member of our data analytics team.

The Data Scientist will be responsible for developing predictive models and algorithms to support business decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in statistics, machine learning, and data analysis, as well as experience working with large datasets. The legal industry, itself, is in the earlier stages of executing data analytics which presents an exciting opportunity with significant potential for growth and development.

We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist who is curious, detail-oriented, and willing to break free from traditional thinking to join our team

Essential Functions
• Work with the Director of Client Intelligence and team to progress predictive and prescriptive analytics
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify business problems and develop data-driven solutions
• Collect and interpret large, complex data sets using statistical and machine learning techniques
• Develop predictive models and algorithms to identify trends and patterns in data
• Analyze data to identify patterns, trends, and insights
• Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders through reports and presentations
• Challenge assumptions and norms to innovate and create new approaches through data
• Suggest and own new processes or other analytic pursuits that drive interest in data analytic efforts across the firm
• Develop and maintain data infrastructure, including data pipelines and databases
• Monitor model performance and make necessary adjustments
• Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in data science and machine learning
• Ensure data accuracy and integrity, and identify opportunities to improve data quality
• Manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines
• All other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education: Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field

Experience: Required : 5+ years of experience in data analytics, financial systems, business analysis and data visualization. Excellent communication, organization, and prioritization skills. Able to effectively interact with individuals at all organizational levels. Experience in a business environment, working with analysts, storytellers, and business stakeholders to prioritize and tune results.

Skills: Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages. Experience with machine learning frameworks. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, SQL, and data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI (Tableau preferred). Familiarity with Snowflake a plus. Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, including manipulating large datasets. Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy. Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills. Flexibility and ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities. Ability to work autonomously. Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and stay calm under pressure.
