Job Description:

Located in Parker, CO, North Star Academy, a public charter school in Douglas County School District serving 675 K-8 students, is seeking a full-time School Psychologist. Founded in 2006, our school’s mission is to provide a Core Knowledge education with an integrated Spanish language program that challenges students to meet their highest potential through differentiated academic instruction and rich social and cultural experiences within a safe, orderly and nurturing environment. Position Specific Information (if Applicable):

North Star Academy is seeking a full-time School Psychologist for the 2023/2024 school year. This position reports to the principal and will work with Special Education teachers and students. The School Psychologist provides consultation and therapy services, in consultation with the trans-disciplinary team, directed toward specific goals to enhance development of social skills, peer relationships, anger management, and ability to function in a school setting.

Responsibilities:
• Conduct and interpret psychological assessments.
• Contribute to comprehensive special education evaluation reports and Individualized Education Program documents.
• Provide interventions to students in special education caseload and as needed to students with 504s and in general education.
• Provide therapy for students in Special Education in individual, small or large group settings, depending on the student needs and IEP service minutes.
• Monitor and report student progress.
• Coordinate mental health supports across tiers.
• Facilitate communication and collaboration within the mental health team.
• Provide consultation and behavior support to teachers.
• Develop and present teacher and staff trainings on pertinent mental health issues.
• Provide whole-class lessons on pertinent mental health topics as needed.
• Conduct crisis evaluations and coordinate follow-up support.
• Coordinate, collaborate and communicate with the sped team.
• Using a variety of cognitive, behavior, and adaptive assessments – conduct assessments and evaluations of students’ cognitive development and social functioning and needs to determine program eligibility and services to be provided.
• Write reports and present data and create goals and objectives for IEP’s
• Create Functional Behavior Assessments and monitor the student’s progress using data collection programs
• Provide support for crisis situations, including individual student needs as needed
• Develop and maintain supplies, materials, and curriculum needed to meet students’ needs
• Consult with staff members on interventions for the classroom to meet student needs
• Maintain records in accordance with IEP law
• Attend IEP meetings, conferences and in-services as required
• Participate in all trainings and team meetings
• Follow all policy and procedure established by the North Star Academy Board of Directors and Administration

Skills/Ability:

The School Psychologist must have strong communication, organization, and follow-through skills. He/she must be flexible and able to work independently. The School Psychologist needs to be able to work effectively with teachers, parents, and students. He/she should be knowledgeable in their field and able to understand how mental health therapy fits in a school model.

Experience/Knowledge:
• Master’s degree in school psychology or related mental health program
• Possession of appropriate Colorado license/certification, NCSP preferred
• Familiarity with the school's charter and full agreement with the school's educational philosophy
