VICE PROVOST FOR SECONDARY EDUCATION – HIGH SCHOOL

Position Description

Working from one of our Family Service Centers, the Vice Provost for Secondary Education – High School will provide leadership and general oversight for the activities and operations of the High School.? The Vice Provost works with parents, learners, support staff, certified teachers, and administrators to facilitate an online-based instructional program and achieve superior outcomes for each learner. The Vice Provost will manage the school principals, who in turn manage assistant principals, school counselors, teachers, and other staff, as they provide daily instruction and support to learners and use the phone and Internet to consult regularly with learning coaches and learners, ensuring that each child successfully completes his/her instructional program.

This individual assumes responsibility for supervising the award of high school course credit and graduation credentials to learners and will implement, maintain, and improve the school’s career development program for learners.

This individual will operate in compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations and school policies and guidelines and ensure that all staff working with elementary school learners are being held to that standard.? This position reports to the Vice President/Provost.

Responsibilities
• Serve as the school leader for the High School program, responsible for the implementation of all Board policies as directed by the President/CEO, Executive Vice Presidents, or other Senior Administrators.
• Lead the development and perpetual refinement and improvement of the overarching high school education plan for CCA.
• Work with CCA leadership, education professionals, and other school staff to set the direction and hold staff accountable to overall departmental goals and priorities as well as to ensure alignment of these goals with the CCA mission and vision.
• Work with total school staff in the planning, improvement, development, and implementation of creative and innovative learning activities, as well as evaluating these activities.
• Consult and collaborate with federal, state, and local officials, public and private partners, and community members to improve CCA’s high school education program.
• Serve as a key representative of CCA in external communications and outreach activities.
• Explore and recommend innovative ways of educating and supporting high school learners in an online environment so staff can provide programming that will lead to the highest probability of academic and social-emotional success for learners.
• Serve as an educational leader with vision and strong instructional insight.
• Lead interactions with internal and external stakeholders on matters of academics, instruction, and assessment.
• Visit live class sessions and participate in field trips, clubs, and other activities to speak with learners, observe instruction, and make connections with families of enrolled and prospective learners.
• Produce learner achievement results commensurate with basic principles of the CCA’s accountability system.
• Assume responsibility for supervising the award of high school course credit and graduation credentials to learners.
• Implement, maintain, and improve the school’s career development program for learners.
• Maintain good public relations and constantly strive to improve school and community relations through daily contact with school staff, parents, learners, and other community members.
• Participate in the implementation and refinement of staff recruiting, retention, professional development, and evaluation practices.
• Ensure that the high school program is appropriately and effectively staffed with certificated/qualified professionals and staff; supervise principals and other assigned staff; and ensure proper utilization of all staff.
• Assume responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of learners.
• Ensure that administrators and teachers exhibit and maintain a high level of professionalism, instructional support, and customer service.
• Ensure the academic success of individual learners by utilizing all levels of academic support available and by maintaining a high level of communication with parents to deliver program information and address individual learner needs.
• Meet as requested with the Senior Administration and Board of Trustees.
• Provide the Senior Administration and Board with regular written and verbal reports and updates and maintain a high level of communication with other appropriate CCA staff.
• Address learner problems escalated by caretakers, learning coaches, administrators, teachers, or other staff or persons.
• All other duties as assigned.

Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education, Business, Leadership, or a related area.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in school administration, business or organizational management or administration, military or public agency leadership, or related experience.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
• Customer-focused approach.
• High degree of flexibility.
• Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
• Team player.
• Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office products).
• Occasional travel.
• Work from a CCA Family Service Center.
• Work from Capital Campus in Harrisburg or regular travel to Capital Campus.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is largely a sedentary role. Requires the ability to lift, squat, sit, bend or stand as necessary—the ability to travel to other sites/locations as needed.

Required Education And Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education, Business, Leadership, or a related area.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in school administration, business or organizational management or administration, military or public agency leadership, or related experience. .
• Preferred Education and Experience
• Master's or Doctorate Degree in Education, Special Education, or related area.
• Pennsylvania Superintendent Letter of Eligibility or Commission Qualification Letter, or Administrative Principal Certification.
• Pennsylvania Superintendent Letter of Eligibility or Commission Qualification Letter
• Minimum 5 years experience in school administration, business or organizational management or administration, or military or public agency leadership, with a minimum of 3 years serving as a supervisory position.
• Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, preferably in a public school setting.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
• Valid PA Driver’s License
• Appropriate Automobile Insurance Coverage
