This Job Description describes the essential duties and qualifications considered necessary to perform the job successfully. General Description

The City is looking for employees who are committed to public service and possess a willingness to be challenged. The Police Department is currently recruiting for a "Police Officer Cadet (Non- certified)". This position is for applicants who have not started a police academy. The Cadet reports to the Police Department’s Training Officer.

In a Cadet position, the incumbent will remain in this position for a six-month period or until graduation from a "Police Academy" and attainment of the TCOLE Police Officer Basic License, after which the incumbent will move to the Police Officer rank. Failure to achieve a TCOLE Police Officer Basic License upon completion of the Academy will result in termination or reassignment.

The Cadet’s Orientation Period will begin following the successful completion of the Academy and attainment of TCOLE License Certification, and it will last for a period of one year.
Essential Job Duties

The Police Cadet must be able to perform the following essential job duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Know and follow the law, City and Department policies and procedures, and the instructions of my supervisors, and/or those in charge.
• Effectively deal with unpleasant situations, irate or disturbed individuals or victims, or gruesome crime scenes.
• Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt quickly and effectively to stressful situations.
• Operate basic police equipment (including but not limited to cameras, recorders, radar, personal computer, and laptop).
• Write accurate, detailed reports.
• Attend training and other meetings as assigned or required.
• Use good judgment in all decision-making and in carrying out all job duties.
• Meet with staff members to identify and resolve problems and concerns.
• Be helpful, cooperative and courteous, and demonstrate a good attitude in all dealings with the public, co-workers and others.
• Punctual, regular, on-site attendance is an essential job duty.
• Demonstrate initiative and diligence in the prompt and proper completion of all job duties, whether or not listed in this Job Description.
• Work safely, follow safety rules and training, and maintain a clean, safe and healthful working environment.
• Maintain appropriate confidentiality with regard to Police and other City business.
• Perform other duties as assigned
