About the role

We are looking for an Engineer – Metals Planning/ Reconciliation to improve and support the processes of planning and reconciliation for the Rio Tinto Kennecott Smelter and the refinery.
This role is an excellent opportunity to be part of the technical team for the Metals portion of RTKC. Reporting to the Sr Planning Reconciliation Engineer, you will:
The primary work is completing projects within the metals planning and reconciliation team.
• Utilize the best lean practices in project management (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control)
• Knowledge of project management (scoping, planning, scheduling, resource planning, and cost estimation)
• Foster strong relationships with all partners in the project stages.
• Lead and support projects to improve reconciliation and planning processes .
• Perform the day-to-day operation of the metal accounting software.
• Assist and Perform month-end accounting for the smelter and refinery.
• Interface and collaborate with other teams such as Metals Operations, Metals Asset Management, Metals Technical, Engineering & Projects, and Integrated Planning
• Report relevant information to USGS monthly.
What you’ll bring
To succeed in this role, you will have:
• Project management skills
• B.S. degree in Mining, Metallurgical, or Chemical Engineering or relevant work experience
• Understanding of planning/ reconciliation processes
• Strong commitment to driving a safety culture
• Strong data handling skills
It will also be beneficial if you have the following:
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Have experience in production planning
• Understanding of Mass Balances
• Have an active drone license

Where you’ll be working
Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903, and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
