Reporting to the General Supervisor of Environmental Management and Utilities Supply, you will be part of the City of Edmonton’s team responsible for environmental leadership, enhancing the City’s environmental performance, fulfilling compliance obligations and maintaining the City’s Environmental Management System in accordance to the international standard ISO 14001 for the assigned areas within the City of Edmonton.

• Provide environmental leadership to assigned areas within the City of Edmonton
• Help achieve the City of Edmonton's environmental goals by implementing the City's environmental policy, corporate strategic plans and environmental management processes into the City’s business processes
• Manage... environmental regulatory processes and risks
• Maintain the City’s Environmental Information Management System in alignment with Enterprise Commons
• Represent the City in dealing with environmental regulatory bodies and agencies and external auditor(s)
• Implement, maintain and manage ISO 14001 certified environmental management system requirements and associated environmental management processes in assigned areas within the City of Edmonton
• Collaborate with a team to maintain an environmental management system that functions efficiently, effectively and seamlessly with the City's overall management system, while achieving the requirements of ISO 14001 and incorporating branch and departmental strategic priorities
• Develop and support environmental continual improvement programs and projects that help achieve the City of Edmonton's environmental goals
• Research and understand emerging issues, technologies and trends in environment, sustainability and resiliency that may impact the City of Edmonton's environmental strategic direction, performance or environmental regulatory compliance
• Monitor, evaluate and report on the environmental performance of your assigned business area
• Advise management of strategic, external and internal environmental issues and options for addressing environmental issues and achieving continual improvement of environmental performance
• Report to management on the system's suitability, adequacy and effectiveness
• Support the City of Edmonton’s internal audits of the environmental management system, which delivers valuable audit findings to the management team
• Supervise a team of Environmental Coordinators, Technologists and Analysts who will plan, support and coordinate environmental activities
• Perform other related duties as required
• A bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related discipline
• Registration as a professional in an environmental discipline is an asset
• Experience in ISO 14001 or ISO 9000 systems or equivalent is required, either as an auditor or a management system representative
• 7 years of progressively responsible experience providing environmental leadership encompassing these areas:
• in-depth understanding of ISO 14001
• best practices used in industry to manage the environmental performance, aspects, risks and opportunities
• Experience developing and maintaining Environmental Information Management systems
• An environmental champion, capable of inspiring and leading others
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with diverse stakeholder groups at both frontline and senior levels utilizing superior interpersonal skills
• An excellent written communicator, capable of developing a wide range of written documents, ranging from technical to general
• An excellent verbal communicator, capable of delivering training sessions, and making presentations to all levels of management
• Proven ability to multi-task-manage a number of complex tasks at any given time
• Ability to work with minimal direction, achieving strict deadlines
