We are a nonprofit news organization looking for a few illustrators who can provide eye-catching editorial illustrations to accompany stories written by incarcerated journalists on an ongoing basis. Several times a month we find ourselves with opinion pieces or personal essays that are difficult to illustrate with stock images or that we believe deserve a little more special attention.

We strive... to find original illustrations that capture the spirit of the story (whether serious or more light-hearted) or can provide a sense of authenticity without veering into cliché or stereotypes (for example, celebrating various holidays while in prison).

Illustrations can be simple and should be completed relatively quickly (2-4 hours) as we have a small budget and steady publishing schedule. They can reflect any style — hand-drawn, ink, watercolor, collage, etc. — as long as they follow the principles of editorial illustration and are appropriate for a news publication. Final files should be high resolution and usable for both print and online
