Mid North Coast Local Health District (MNCLHD) Mental Health Services are committed to building a professional

Peer Workforce that supports consumers living with mental illness and distress in their recovery journey.The Mental Health Peer Workforce in MNCLHD is comprised of employees who have a lived or living experience of mental ill health, suicide and recovery, as well as additional life and work skills they bring to the role.

The Peer Workforce is seen as vital in the support and guidance they positively offer to Consumers and the Mental Health Service.This is achieved by being an effective support person and role model that can offer new insights and hope in the practical meaning personal recovery.

With the expansion of the Inpatient Recovery Services, part... of this role of Peer Worker is to assist with the Consumers transition from inpatient services to community. The Peer Worker roles will have a focus on working within the inpatient recovery services but is not limited to the setting. The role may require working in various locations and settings across MNCLHD .

THIS VACANCY IS OPEN TO EXISTING INTERNAL NSW HEALTH SERVICE EMPLOYEES.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA).

New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. Please provide proof of booster vaccination if available.

Salary will be accordance with NSW Health State Awards for the advertised classification/s. These awards are available at http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/careers/conditions/pages/default.aspx .

AN ELIGIBILITY LIST FROM THIS RECRUITMENT ACTIVITY MAY BE CREATED FOR FUTURE VACANCIES
• Understanding of and commitment to consumer led recovery principles.
• A personal lived experience of mental health issues and demonstrated recovery. Ability to utilise the personal lived experience of mental health issues and demonstrated recovery to support others with their own mental health recovery journey, whilst drawing on effective strategies to maintain wellness.
• Demonstrated ability to individually advocate and systemically advocate for mental health consumers.
• Completion of or willingness to undertake Certificate IV Peer Work – Mental Health qualification.
• Demonstrated sound written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy with the ability to use relevant software programs (eg Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Good organisational and planning skills to organise one’s own daily work
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team and actively contribute to the further development of MNCLHD Peer Services and broader Peer Workforce.
• Have a current Divers Licence valid within Australia and ability to travel and work across different locations as required.
