PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

This role exists to support Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Wagga Wagga, to provide a welcoming and safe place for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and their children.

As the schools are located in Wiradjuri (and Yorta Yorta) country, in accordance with our tradition, the term Aboriginal will be used to refer to both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, parents and carers.

The Aboriginal School and Community Worker (ASCW) will engage in opportunities which support the learning, pastoral and spiritual wellbeing of Aboriginal students, their families and community. Communication with Aboriginal families, school personnel and forming partnerships with local Aboriginal organisations and Elders is essential.

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday - 35 hours per week

Essential requirements:
• Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and be able to engage and connect with Aboriginal Elders and local community organisations.
• Supportive of the purpose, vision and values of Catholic Education.
• The ability to work independently, supportively and collaboratively with all community members.
• Effective communications skills in a variety of settings.
• Current Drivers Licence.
• Current Working with Children Check

What is next?

This position reports directly to the school principal of Mater Dei Catholic College Wagga Wagga, and has a second reporting function to CEDWW personnel.
