Under general administrative direction. manages and directs the activities of professional and technical engineering. architecture and/or landscape architecture personnel performing highly technical and administrative functions in connection with the design. construction. operation and maintenance of projects and systems.

The essential functions of the class may vary depending upon assignment... and may include: directing, supervising and coordinating the design of complex engineering/architecture/landscape architecture projects: interviewing. selecting. training. monitoring and evaluating departmental staff and consultants: planning. organizing and directing the administration and management of contracts: directing. supervising and reviewing the preparation of complex construction contract and construction documents: establishing and implementing departmental policies. procedures and administrative directives: managing projects: directing. reviewing and supervising the review of shop drawings by contractors: supervising field inspection staff: coordinating all activities between a unit and other groups: consulting with technical staff: conducting meetings: representing the City: writing and/or reviewing and approving documents.
