Position Overview
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Fire Chief is responsible for the direction, management and organization of the Kimberley Fire Department. This position supervises the career Assistant Fire Chiefs and approximately 30 paid on-call firefighters. The Fire Chief oversees all aspects of the Fire Department, including training, fire suppression, fire prevention activities, administration of local and provincial fire regulations, and related emergency service program for the City. This position calls for an effective leader who has the ability to develop cohesive teams that can achieve exceptional results, the ability to build positive internal and external relations, and has excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Qualifications
Applicants must have 10 years of firefighter experience, including 3 years as a Senior Officer, particularly in a paid on-call... department. A thorough knowledge of the British Columbia Fire Service Minimum Training Standards for Firefighters & Officers (Third Edition 09/22), as well as satisfactory completion of accredited (IFSAC or ProBoard) Fire Service “instructor” training is essential. Applicants must also have a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License w/air brake endorsement, along with a satisfactory driver’s abstract. In addition, applicants must also have successfully completed the following courses:
• OFA Level 3 certification
• Minimum of ICS 300
• NFPA 1021 Fire Officer Level 3
• NFPA 1521 Incident Safety Officer
• NFPA 1001 Professional Qualifications for Firefighter Level 2
• NFPA 1033 Professional Qualification for Fire Investigator
Additional Information
This is a salaried position, based on a 37.5-hour work week, and relocation assistance may be provided to the successful applicant. Shortlisted applicants will be required to undergo a Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) and/or a verification of their education credentials.
