The Research Analyst reports to the Director of Data Analytics and Management (Director) and Associate Director, OIRAP. The Research Analyst provides support for the Institutional Research Office's core activity of capturing, extracting, analyzing, and reporting data on faculty, students, staff and other critical academic, physical and financial information for leadership decision-making purposes and external reporting requirements. Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides technical expertise in data analytics projects. Extracts and compiles data, performs data checks for validations, develops datasets for analytics, and analyzes data for Office projects and reporting requirements. Conducts data analyses and develops data visualizations for ad hoc and analytical projects. Supports the Institutional Research Office's core activity of capturing, extracting, analyzing, and reporting data on faculty, students, staff and other critical academic, physical and financial information for leadership (university wide, chancellor, and school operations) decision-making purposes and external reporting requirements. Plans, coordinates and implements complex data analyses, works with IR staff to implement analyses. Creates reports, presentations, and publications based on the data analyses conducted. Completes work independently with broadly defined work objectives and limited review of overall results. Delivers and maintains data reports, ensures data integrity, and reconciles data discrepancies. In partnership with a team, develops, manages, and maintains systems for collecting data important to central administration, school, and departmental administration, and faculty. Minimum Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in applied mathematics, statistics, social science, or in a related scientific field or discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. A minimum five years of progressively responsible practical data analysis experience and experience working with end-users to develop reports, dashboard indicators, and key performance measures using various analytical tools and system, and experience in an analytical office, preferably within a higher education or other public sector setting. Certifications/LicensesRequired Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of data management and data analysis software; experience using querying tools (through GUI or writing and executing code against large relational databases) and multi-dimensional concepts. SAS or SPSS skills (or similar data management and statistical programming skills). Advanced Microsoft Access and Excel experience (i.e., pivot tables, cross tab queries, ODBC). Excellent analytical and conceptual problem solving skills. Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail; excellent communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty and staff; the ability to work independently. Ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives on data usage. Preferred QualificationsAdvanced degree in applied mathematics, statistics, social science, or in a related scientific field or discipline. Experience with databases such as MS SQL and Oracle preferred. A strong technical aptitude and desire to keep up with the latest technological and data management advances is strongly preferred. Experience working with data in the context of higher education. Experience in Institutional Research related environments. Good working knowledge of higher education operations, practices, and organizational structure. Experience using Tableau software.
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
