Fixed Term:
12 MonthsLeicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS) are seeking to recruit two Sports Development Officers to support our ambition to make Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland the most sporting and physically active place in England.
The posts will manage and support the delivery and development of programmes linked to the priorities of reducing inactivity, increasing participation and improving the health and wellbeing of our residents.
About Sports Development Officer x 2 Posts Post 1:
Tackling Inequalities Evidence tells us that the opportunities to get involved in physical activity are not equal across all communities, it can very much depend on people's background, gender, postcode and many more influences.
This post will support us to work with communities to tackle inequalities linked to participation to both increase activity levels and improve the health and wellbeing of our residents.
Examples of projects (although not a definitive list):
Tackling inequalities by... focusing on increasing participation in underrepresented groups (e.g.
Women & Girls, People with Long Term Conditions, Disabled People, Lower Socio Economic Groups, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Communities) Developing targeted approaches and interventions to raise physical activity in low participating groups and settings (e.g.
This Girl Can, Twilight Games, Awareness Raising Programme) Providing advice and guidance to non-traditional physical activity partners / groups to support them to embed physical activity into their programmes and within their communities.
Developing and delivering relevant physical activity and sport campaigns to reduce inactivity and increase participation (with a focus on landing and targeting these within under-represented communities) Encouraging everyone to embed regular, informal physical activity and sport opportunities into their daily lives.
Post 2:
Physical Activity & Health (Active Medicine) Focus National guidelines advise that physical activity promotion for inactive people with a range of long-term conditions and physical activity brief advice in healthcare is one of the top seven 'best buys' for getting a population active.
This post will support us to focus on increasing opportunities to embed physical activity advice and guidance into health care settings and amongst health care professionals, to both increase activity levels and improve the health and wellbeing of our residents.
Developing a targeted approach to raise physical activity in low participating groups and settings.
Raise awareness of the health and wellbeing benefits of physical activity to health professionals / settings and communities.
Supporting health care professionals and health groups to embed physical activity into their settings and have active conversations with patients (e.g.
work with GP Surgeries, Patient Participation Groups, Pharmacies) Developing and delivering relevant local and national physical activity and sport campaigns / programmes to reduce inactivity and increase participation (with a focus on active medicine related campaigns / projects and landing these in health care settings e.g.
Pharmacies, GP Surgeries) Encouraging everyone to embed regular, informal physical activity and sport opportunities into their daily lives.
