Role description:
Arcadis Canada is seeking a Senior Environmental Manager (Aquatic Biologist) to join our team in Greater Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada with ability to travel as required.
Role accountabilities:
This will be a leadership role to help us with environmental management and biological services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Supporting pursuit and project management teams during all phases with freshwater and marine aquatic biological services in various sectors including infrastructure development, contaminated sites, power, mining, industrial and government.
• Overseeing the identification, selection and management of sub-consultants and contractors as needed for individual pursuits and projects.
• Client development and client relationship management.
• Leading, mentoring and management of inhouse intermediate and junior professionals for environmental management and environmental monitoring of projects including field programs that may consist of habitat assessment; bio-inventories; aquatic effects assessments; sediment and pore-water sampling; species at risk surveys and salvage.
• Completing Environmental Impact Assessments and obtaining federal and/or provincial certificates/permits from agencies such as CEAA, BCEAA, NEB, DFO, TC, BC MOECCS.
• Design and overseeing implementation of project requirements consisting of elements such as offsetting habitats including riparian areas, tidal marshes, spawning beaches, and shorelines.
• Leading the preparation and submission of environmental assessment and compliance reports to clients and regulators to meet the requirements of projects, environmental certificates and permits.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
• A minimum of a B.Sc. with 10 years of relevant experience. An M.Sc. or Ph.D. is an advantage.
• Registration as a Professional Biologist (R.P. Bio) in BC.
Key Experience:
• Experience in the interior BC freshwater habitats and coastal British Columbia marine aquatic habitats with inventory and baseline studies, underwater noise and hydroacoustics, marine mammals, species at risk.
• Experience in working for a diverse clientele including government, crown corporations such as BC Hydro, mining, rail, large infrastructure development companies.
• Experience on major pursuits and projects that are comparable in scope, complexity and nature in the development, management and implementation of plans and practices to address environmental requirements.
• Experience in completing Environmental Impact Assessments and a strong track record in federal and provincial permitting such as CEAA, BCEAA, NEB, DFO, TC, BC MOECCS.
• Experience in environmental representation for working group meetings and stakeholder consultations, open houses and public meetings.
• Experience working in large multidisciplinary teams for pursuits and projects in all phases with identification of environmental constraints, regulatory pathways, permitting requirements and mitigation strategies; developing terms of reference; developing and implementing environmental management plans and environmental monitoring plans, reports to meet the requirements of EAO certificates and permits.
• Experience in client development and client relationship management.
• Training in program / project management including project planning, health and safety, and overseeing project implementation would be an added advantage.
• Good communication, interpersonal and writing skills.
