QLS has a full time and permanent opportunity for a Managing Editor to join their Publications team.

About the role
• Work with key stakeholders within QLS to develop a content and editorial strategy for the site, that aligns to QLS key messages, communications plan and advocacy priorities.
• Contribute to all aspects of the news publication cycle, including writing, editing, attending and reporting on industry events, and developing video feature series.
• Grow the Proctor audience through relevant, engaging, content, using a data-driven approach to understand which content resonates with our audience.
• Reinvigorate the... Proctor contributor program to increase quality article submissions from members and nurture relationships key contributors.
• Lead and develop a small team of media and writing specialists.
• Work with the Partnerships & Growth Team to deliver value to advertisers and contribute to achieving advertising revenue KPIs.
• Develop and maintain strong networks with the courts, government and the Queensland legal profession.
• Manage the QLS publications (expenses) budget.

About you
• A proven, established journalist with 7+ years’ experience in an editorial leadership or similar journalism role.
• Experience in producing a variety of content formats – opinion articles, news articles, features, video stories and podcasts.
• Legal media experience (highly desirable) and/or demonstrated understanding of the Queensland legal and/or political system/s (desirable).
• Team leadership and staff management experience.
• Solid digital publications experience.
• Well-developed ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
• Attention to detail and nuance in communication.
• Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision and display initiative and self- motivation.
