Safe Bed Program Registered Nurse / Registered Practical Nurse

Summary
This member of the Canadian Mental Health Association works alongside a team of professionals whose focus is safety, stability and support for individuals in a mental health crisis who are in immediate contact with police but not suitable for incarcerations or admission to the hospital. The team would consist of a multidisciplinary team either within the Canadian Mental Health Association, Kenora Branch or another community agency. This member is responsible for assessing clients’ physical health needs, making appropriate referrals to community physicians, providing management and administration of medication in conjunction with the a practitioner, and providing a range of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services both for a variety of programs offered by the Canadian Mental Health Association, Kenora Branch. The Registered Nurse/Registered Practical Nurse will coordinate... shift-management with other registered nurse/registered practical nurses within the Canadian Mental Health Association, Kenora Branch. This position reports directly to the Safe Bed Program Team Lead and Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications
Registration or eligible for registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Knowledge of mental health/illness and mental health difficulties and treatment modalities
Assessment/ Evaluation skills
Working knowledge of community resources and agencies
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Ability to manage conflict and crisis situations
Computer literacy and recording skills
Cultural Competence for diverse populations
Valid Driver’s Licence
Criminal Records Check
Certification in CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain same

Duties
Responsible for:
•Adherence to all policies of the CMHA Kenora Branch
•Assurance of confidentiality of all client, personnel and organizational records and information
•Maintenance of client files and data files including updating of client information consistent with policies andprocedures of the CMHA Kenora Branch
•Maintenance of professional qualifications and registration
•Participation in ongoing training and education and application of new skills to practice
•Coordinate shift management as per established policies and procedures
•On call from Monday to Friday from 4:30 p.m-9:00 p.m. and on weekends and statutory holidays. When onvacation coverage, sick etc. coverage is coordinated through internal programs
•Provide crisis intervention, Advocacy
•Take the lead role or participate in providing medication administration and medical services
•Develop, revise, and maintain client psychopharmacological and medical treatment including transcribing,administering, evaluating and recording psychotropic medications prescribed by the treating practitioner
•Under the direction of the Safe Bed Program Team Lead & Chief Executive Officer and treating practitionermanage pharmaceuticals and medical supplies
•Provide case management for an assigned group of clients and their families
•Function as a fully integrated member of the team for the client residing within the residences or otheridentified agency programs
•Assessment of client needs and mental status and the development of appropriate recovery plans
•Facilitate and monitor the implementation of client recovery plans
•Participate in staff meetings and recovery plan meetings
•Participate on specific Committees or task or work groups as assigned by the Safe Bed Program TeamLead and Chief Executive Officer
•Provide a safe environment by ensuring adherences to Workplace Health and Safety Regulations andPolicies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHIMIS and Safe Work Procedures; including but not limited to Fire,Disaster and Evacuation Plans
•Ensure client safety and client safety activities are emphasized throughout orientation of new staffmembers
•Support an environment which avoids, prevents and corrects all activities or actions which may result in anadverse outcome in the delivery of mental health services
•Participation in administrative and office functions
•Responsible for self care
•Other duties as directed

This position is eligible for the Community Commitment Program for Nurses (CCPN) through the Ontario Health

RPN Salary Range 27.20 to 34.15
