OUR INNOVATIONS

Automated Net System

Katchi is developing a groundbreaking automated commercial fishing net system that replaces traditional ground trawl nets, operating just off the seabed to catch ground fish and anywhere in the water column to catch groundfish and mid-water species. This technology will significantly reduce fuel consumption, minimize fishing times, and eliminate seabed contact.

Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV)

Our state-of-the-art USV will collect and analyze data on fish stocks and ocean health, allowing regulators to accurately assess fish stocks in real-time, and providing data to the fishers that will enable them to catch the ideal size/maturity of their target species more efficiently and with less by-catch.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Electrical Engineer, with direction from the Chief Technology Officer, will oversee the electronic aspects of Katchi’s operations. This role will require expertise at the level of competency of a junior-to-intermediate Electrical Engineer, requiring skills and best-practices applied broadly to electronic hardware and software. Roles and responsibilities include:
• Conceptualize, prototype and build new technological products under the direction of the CTO
• Testing the performance of newly developed technological products and conducting evaluations of designs already in use, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating electronic equipment. Identifying solutions to technical design problems that arise during the design, development, and testing processes.
• System integration with existing marine equipment and underwater sensors
• Operating, troubleshooting and integrating commercial-off-the-shelf underwater sensors
• Analog and digital circuit design
• Schematic capture and printed circuit board layout using CAD software
• Creating wiring diagrams using CAD software
• Programming embedded microcontrollers (e.g. Arduino)
• Assembly and wiring of electrical enclosures including DIN rail components, panel-mount indicators and switches, panel-mount, and inline connectors
• Basic soldering and component population
• Supporting manufacturing of components
• Providing Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and maintaining documentation for electronic components and systems deployed by Katchi
• Assisting with general operations as part of the Katchi team, where needed
• Other duties/responsibilities falling within the scope of an Electrical Engineer
