Duration of Job: May 24-26 and June through August

Summary of Work

Operate/interpret 5-cm digital Doppler weather radars equipped with IRIS and TITAN software and simultaneously direct multiple aircraft. Identification of suitable clouds; clear communication with aircraft via two-way radio; operation of Windows, Mac, and Linux/Unix-based software; pilot briefings; meteorological record keeping; direction and supervision of intern meteorologists; supervision of chemical inventory; and assisting with radar calibrations and maintenance. Other duties include monitoring local weather conditions, interaction with National Weather Service personnel and the public, and data entry. The NDARB will conduct a pre-project ground school and orientation in Bismarck on May 24-26, 2023; all project personnel are required to attend. The field phase of the project begins at noon on June 1, 2023 and continues as weather dictates, 24-hours a day, seven days a week, through the project’s conclusion on August 31, 2023.

Minimum Qualifications

The position requires a Bachelor of Arts or Science in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or Related Field by the start of ground school on May 24, 2023.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with radar operation and short-term forecasting of deep convection; recent experience in operational convective cloud seeding.
