Job Overview

Arris Composites is seeking an experienced Product Development Engineer who has 2 or more years of experience in the advanced continuous fiber-reinforced composite (CFRP) or thermoplastic composite (TPC) domain.

You are a problem solver with a knack for engineering and mechanical thinking. You have experience building/working with mechanical, and automation devices, a deep intuitive sense of Newtonian physics, and a desire for elegance. You should be experienced in prototyping, developing, and CIP(continuous improving plan) your designs in close collaboration with a functional team. You are familiar and comfortable with project management and driving to achieve the target.

As our Product Development Engineer, You Will:
• Create and optimize the process of using composite materials to realize parts
• Select the proper methods to achieve the criteria or specifications (e.g. mechanical, thermal, dimensional, surface finish, etc.)
• Determine the processing conditions needed to achieve target specifications (e.g. mechanical, thermal, dimensional, surface finish, etc.)
• Be responsible for hands-on prototyping, fabrication, and testing of composite material processes
• Manufacture workflow and process improvement, and documentation SOP or specific working instruction, ex. SOW
• Work on simple electromechanical design and assembly to aid in new process development
• Engage frequently with US-based colleagues for knowledge transfer and continuous improvement
• Apply past process knowledge to new programs, leading the development of new techniques and capabilities
• Work closely with the program manager(PM) and all team members to achieve engineering schedules, risk assessment, priorities, etc. Relay complex engineering decisions to a team of technicians
• Estimate the technical risk and scheduling to complete task forces and mission
• Work with a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic work environment

You Will Ideally Bring:
• Minimum BS in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, materials science or similar
• 3+ years experience working in manufacturing
• Sketch well enough to communicate complex ideas
• Nice to have 2D/3D CAD experience
• Experience with molding process – either compression, stamping, thermoforming, RTM, HP-RTM or other familiar composite process
• Experience post process in bonding, welding, forming or similar method used in the processing of thermoplastic or thermoset composite materials
• FEMA ability
• Experience in correlating out-of-specification parts to process, materials, and/or design issues
• Excellent attention and down to detail methodology
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Vision and can respectfully disagree when you see things differently than others, but you also can recognize when your concept isn't the one that we're moving forward with and you can get 100 percent behind the new direction
• Taking initiative and following up

Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of fiber composite materials, lamination/Layup, curing or consolidation process
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Great professional reference for the specific domain
