Your mission:
The Department of Maritime Security Technologies is dedicated to solving a wide range of technological issues required for the implementation and testing of innovative system concepts for the protection of maritime infrastructures. These include the development and demonstration of novel tools and system functions capable of detecting, assessing, and visualizing the protection status of maritime infrastructures in real time and in a largely automated manner.
The Situational Awareness and Cybersecurity Group works on a varied range of tasks in cross-thematic technology areas surrounding the core idea of developing software and methods for maritime situational awareness pictures. You will address the question of how point clouds from laser scanning and photogrammetry campaigns can be segmented both manually and automatically using current methods from the machine learning field for automation. You will have the opportunity to both practically apply your knowledge in a... maritime research institute and to create and develop new foundations and applications in an exciting niche in the field of artificial intelligence.
Become part of a young, collegial, dynamic team and take on the following tasks:
• Application, adaptation, development and scientific evaluation of different methods, such as neural networks, for the extraction and segmentation of point clouds,
• investigation of the transferability of the methods with respect to changes in the infrastructures themselves as well as in the surrounding conditions such as weather or time of day,
• presentation of data and results,
• planning and execution of measurement campaigns as well as
• scientific evaluation of the results for national and international conferences and journals.
We encourage entry-level applications and graduates to apply and will assist people in pursuing a PhD.
Your qualifications:
• Completed academic university studies (Master / Diploma University) in information processing sciences (e.g. computer science, media informatics, data science), natural sciences (e.g. physics, earth sciences), mathematics, engineering sciences (mechanical engineering, mechatronics, electrical engineering) or other courses of study relevant for the job
• Excellent programming skills, ideally C++, Python, Java and/or Rust.
