Hands for an African Child is a non-profit organization that helps orphans in Africa and Uganda in Particular. We provide education to the orphans to obtain skills and be self-reliant adults within the setup of foster parenting.

JOB SUMMARY

PURPOSE OFTHE JOB:Responsible for prepare andanalyse financial information to facilitate management’s decision making. Providesupport by liaising with other departments on all finance matters, budgetarymanagement and control. Also responsible for financial reporting and submissionof statutory returns to authorities and ensure that the general finance andaccounting operations are carried out in compliance with the relevantlegislation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES: · Review financial commitments and payments requests to ensure compliancewith Plan Policies and procedures.· Process all financial transactions timely basis. · Prepare reconciliation of all bank accounts and booking ledgers on amonthly basis to ensure... exceptions are identified and dealt promptly.· Help in preparation of financial management reports on a monthly basis fordecision making.· Perform physical verification of Assets at least twice a year to ensurethat all assets are accurately valued and recorded in the assets register. · Prepare monthly payroll and the related statutory returns; and ensure periodicPAYE, NSSF and WHT returns are done to ensure adherence to the Employment Act andTax Laws.· Monitor theexpenditures to ensure that program funds are utilized appropriately by theclose of the fiscal year. · Verify, allocate, post,and reconcile financial transactions through quick books software.· Prepare weekly cash flow statements, andcontrolling expenditures and cash flow.· Assisting with the preparation of year endaccounts and statutory accounts like external audit. · Managing and training staff when necessary. · Filling and remitting taxes and otherobligations. · Produce error-freeaccounting reports and present their results to Senior Accountant and orManagement. · Provide technicalsupport and advice on management. · Participate in financialstandards setting and in forecast process. · Prepare financialstatements and produce budget according to schedule.· Any other job that may be given to the jobholder from time to time. PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS:MINIMUM ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: · Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or FinanceManagement or Commerce from a recognized University.· Must have a professional qualification inAccounting such as CPA· Being a member of Institute of CertifiedPublic Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) is an additional advantage. WORK EXPERIENCE: · Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience. COMPETENCIES: · Hands-on experience with accounting softwarepackages, like QuickBooks, Tally, oracle.· Good oral communication skills andinterpersonal skills. · Ability to work independently and as part of ateam. · Excellent analytical, detail-oriented andnumerical skills. · Ability to research, analyse and communicatecomplex information to non-financial people and to make useful and usablerecommendations.· High level of integrity with strong leadershipand managerial abilities.· Computer literacy skills.· Honesty and transparency. · Respect and professionalism.· Time management and multitasking. · Knowledge of the Ugandan laws on Finance andcompanies.· Finance risk management.
