Description West Virginia University College of Applied Human Sciences is currently accepting applications for an Editorial Assistant. As an Editorial Assistant, you will support the mission of FiT Publishing and the International Center for Performance Excellence (ICPE) to produce and promote educational products to a global audience on the most recent research in sport sciences by international... scholars through the publication of textbooks, trade publications, journals, and online content. This position coordinates all aspects of production to publish and promote two quarterly journals annually, and support the FiT/ICPE senior editor with publication of3-6 textbooks annually.We strongly believe in work-life balance and keeping time for things we love outside our work. Wellness programsPay Grade: 15What you''ll do: Work with FiT Publishing executive journal editors to oversee production of two academic journals, ensuring timely publication of print and online content according to predetermined production schedules, production requirements and budget. Coordinate each issue through all phases of production: copyediting, revision, page design, proofreading, page proofs, printing & binding, print delivery, and online release. Perform or schedule freelance copyediting and proofreading tasks; schedule and coordinate with typesetter cover design, page layout and review tasks; collate and check proofs, coordinate with vendors printing, binding and delivery tasks. Keep authors and production work on schedule, identify issues or problems, and provide corrective actions as needed. Work with senior editor to prepare assigned textbook manuscripts for publication. Tasks include new manuscript reviews, manuscript copyediting or proofreading as assigned; review printer page proofs. Prepare, copyedit, or proofread ancillary material as needed, such as front matter, back matter, cover copy, related teaching materials, promotional material, and teaser excerpts. Liaise with authors and vendors to acquire materials, obtain revisions, samples, or assigned work, answer questions, secure copyright agreements, finalize related teaching materials, confirm invoice amounts for services, and resolve issues as needed. Write and copyedit marketing or web promotions for print and electronic products. Manage content updates on the publisher website. Prepare journals for web conversion and release. Assist with preparing and posting journal social media and subscriber newsletters.Qualifications Bachelor''s degree required, preferably in English, communication, publishing, or related field with an emphasis on language editing and structure, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master''s degree in related field preferred. A minimum of one (1) year experience in the following: In a publishing environment is required. Experience with writing and editing for adherence to APA style is required. Demonstrated project management, time management and organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize a varied workload Knowledge of and experience in journal publishing practices, processes, and terminology. Ability to edit accurately, thoroughly, and quickly. Proficient knowledge of APA and Chicago Manual of Style. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat. Skill in print, online publishing and graphic design programs (e.g., PhotoShop, HTML, InDesign) is advantageous. Must be highly organized and attentive to detail. Excellent skills in English grammar, spelling, sentence structure, and style. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to effectively manage multiple production schedules with overlapping deadlines. Ability to work independently to carry out assignments with minimal supervision yet work as part of a team in a deadline oriented environment. Ability to copyedit for grammar and style while retaining the author''s intended meaning and voice, Ability to maintain multiple production schedules and release deadlines. Ability to set goals, publication standards and expectations to keep work on schedule. Ability to make decisions and problem solve for optimal outcomes.
