The Role

The Senior Management Accountant partners closely with the Executive Managers and other key business stakeholders, providing expert advice on budgeting, planning, risk management, and financial decision making.

With lots of variety the role oversees a small team of 2-3 management accountants to deliver financial accounting services across the business.

Reporting to the newly appointed Executive Manager, Finance, Strategy, & Governance, the Senior Management Accountant operates under a series of high-level KPIs, working collaboratively to monitor and advise on business financials. The role is advisory in nature and supports its stakeholders to make informed decisions by supplying factual, accurate business information.

A strong focus on providing best in class financial and management accounting advice that will support better decision making is the essence of this role: and, to this end, the importance of producing high-quality information is highly valued as will be your desire to participate and contribute in a high performing team generally.

About You

As a Chartered Accountant and current CAANZ member (or equivalent such as CIMA or CPA), you will have experience in a medium-sized or larger organisation, and ideally have experience working in local government and with advanced Excel and financial systems skills. If you do not have experience in local government or a government agency, you will be a quick learner with the ability to quickly grasp a good understanding of the regulatory context and the Local Government Act 2002.

As an experienced Senior Management Accountant, you will be a confident communicator and problem solver and be able to point to success achieving agreed outputs and deadlines and take pride in your attention to detail especially with your written communication and report writing.

You might describe yourself as a 'people person' who enjoys building relationships with internal stakeholders and assisting internal budget holders to understand their roles and responsibilities in managing financials and budgets.

Additionally, you will have some experience of leading others in a finance team with effective planning and delivery across their transactional, reporting and decision support activities. You will be keen to develop your own leadership capability and be motivated by ensuring your direct reports are engaged and performing to their full potential.
