DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Houston Health seeks an individual skilled in working as a Registered Dietician to serve as the nutritionist and client educator within the DAWN- Diabetes Center- ALIEF. The responsibilities for this position include assessing, planning and monitoring the delivery of nutrition and diabetes education. Essential duties are as follow:
• Develop and provide nutritional health care education and consultation to DAWN center clients and their families.
• Design nutritional care plans and follow client through to completion of plan.
• Chart and document client records.
• Serves as an instructor or leader for nutrition classes and diabetes self-management evidence base programs.
• Produce technical documents such as toolkits, factsheets, curriculums, best practices, workplans, posters and oral presentations.
• Audits ongoing nutrition health education activities to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
• Evaluate, develop, and select all... nutritional health educational content and materials according to National CLAS Standards for Cultural and Linguistic Appropriate Services.
• Supervise and coach direct reports.
• Provide orientation and training for new employees, plan and coordinate staff in-service training and educational sessions.
• Act as liaison or subject matter expert on health education and nutritional education and services.
• Monitor quality assurance standards and analyzes data.
• Performs special assignments as requested.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition or Dietetics; and the successful completion of an internship which meets the approval of the A.D.A. is preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Four (4) years of experience as a nutritionist, dietitians, teacher, or home demonstration agent (county agent) are required.

A Master’s degree in Dietetics or Nutrition may be substituted for two years of the experience requirement.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Registration with the American Dietetic Association (RD) is preferred. Depending on assignment, may require both registration (RD) and State of Texas licensure (LD) if working in areas involving Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement.

Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and comply with the City of Houston’s policy on driving (AP 2-2).

Master’s Degree is preferred.

Bilingual in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese (Mandarin), Urdu, Arabic, French are preferred based on community needs.

Experience in qualitative research, health promotion, and community-based engagement.

Experience using Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.

Advance and expert proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Qualtrics, Smartsheets, Google Form.

Able to work untraditional hours (1-2 weekends and late hours) and flextime if needed.
