The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in Egypt seeks to hire a consultant who can support the implementation of several impact evaluation projects in Egypt and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The successful consultant will work with senior researchers to evaluate the impact of various interventions and shocks in Egypt and the MENA region. The candidate should have strong quantitative skills and experience in impact evaluation as well as household surveys. The activities will mainly include: development of survey designs and instruments and household data analyses. Some of the immediate tasks will involve evaluating the implication of recent inflation on household diets as well as the role of social protection programs in cushioning the adverse inflationary impacts. The consultant will also handle... household survey data analyses and impact evaluation of major social protection policies in Egypt. The consultant will also be involved in other on-going projects in Egypt and other countries in the MENA region. The successful candidate will support senior researchers in assembling, cleaning and analyses of large household data. The successful consultant will be heavily involved in writing of journal articles and reports. Extensive experience in household survey data analysis Experience in publishing journal articles or reports Excellent knowledge of microeconomic theory Excellent knowledge in STATA and preferred prior knowledge in GAMS Familiarity with literature on social protection, nutrition, economic development, agriculture, poverty reduction and related fields Experience in Egypt and/or the MENA region Experience in gender research Familiarity with Egypt’s food and social protection policies Knowledge of Arabic
Main deliverables:
The successful candidate will closely work with the research team to deliver the following outputs. Clean data and build do-files for evaluating the implication of price shocks and the role of social protection Analyze panel data for evaluating the implication of price shocks and the role of social protection Contribute to journal paper on the role of social protection and cash transfers to cushion adverse impacts of food inflation. 4
