Job Duties
Assists with projects and technical execution of meteorological and oceanographic (physical environment) specific contracts, including the planning, documentation, execution, and client liaison for the deployment, recovery, and servicing of environmental and meteorological measurement sensors and equipment. Perform investigations for the purpose of identifying hazards that affect... either the environment or the health of the population. Assists with selected field work assignments. Responsible for technical coordination of selected instrumentation, which may include writing technical papers or summaries, and field trials of instrumentation, or similar activities. Perform technical review of selected environmental, meteorological and oceanographic projects. Using knowledge of various scientific disciplines, including research-level environmental, meteorological and oceanographic procedures and standards, may collect, synthesize, study, report, and recommend action based on data derived from measurements or observations of air, water, and other sources. As an environmental scientist, the senior oceanographer. Applying mathematics and physics to data to produce environmental science reports on the data and analysis. Submitting analysis of field data and recommendations to public and client about the environmental conditions (both weather and prevailing waves & current) for a particular site/location. Research environmental impact of industrial or development activities and how environmental forcing will affect the risk of offshore energy companies having an environmental accident (e.g. oil spill, well blow out, wind turbine affecting whale populations, etc). Writing a data collection plan, or project execution plan, for deploying scientific equipment. Producing a project schedule to ensure data collection is completed as specified in client contract. Field work processes include travel to data collection site, configuring sensors, completing instrument log sheets, and taking field notes. Drafting Field Study Reports and Final Data Reports to communicate methods and results of data collected. Meet with public and clients to inform them of the progress of the project and the results of the scientific measurement campaigns. Compile environmental or climatological data through deployed scientific instrumentation. This environmental metocean data allows scientists to produce statistics on the probability of weather, and ocean weather, events occurring in the future (e.g. 100-yr storm, 100-yr wave, 1000-yr wind speed) for a particular offshore energy development and location.
Minimum Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Oceanography, Meteorology, Math, or Physics or related field.
Minimum Experience Requirements
3 years of related environmental and meteorological experience with physical oceanographic and
meteorological data acquisition and analysis using ADCP, WinADCP, and mooring design and analysis, with
at least 3 years of experience in environmental and meteorological project management.
Travel Requirement
