Job Description

Shift: 8:00am-4:30pm

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The midwifery position at Kings County Department of OBGYN allow for the development of a robust low-risk obstetric and gynecology practice. The midwife has opportunities to provide antenatal care, delivery patients vaginally on L&D, follow their patients post-partum, work in a family planning practice, and any other opportunity within the scope of practice of midwifery.

Areas Of Responsibilities

Provides clinical midwifery care in the outpatient and inpatient settings at Kings County Hospital

Summary Of Duties And Responsibilities
• Provides general care to OB/GYN patients using the midwifery model of care
• Obtain health history and relevant demographic data from patient, family member or guardian.
• Access physical and psychological health status of individuals and families, through history taking and physical examination.
• Performs complete assessment of presenting symptoms/screening questions, imaging and laboratory tests.
• Interprets the result of tests and initiates further action, as necessary.
• Evaluates findings of the health assessment in collaboration with physicians and other health professionals in order to make decisions about treatment.
• Inform patients of treatment alternatives.
• Request appropriate consultations.
• Counsel patients/families or guardians on impact of illness and any modifications needed for health maintenance. Order prescription for medications

Minimum Qualifications
• Licensure as a Midwife by the New York State Department of Education; and,
• Two years of clinical experience in midwifery practice.

Department Preferences
• Licensure as a Midwife by the New York State Department of Education; and,
• Two years of clinical experience in midwifery practice.
