West Valley Outdoor Learning Center Environmental Educator

AmeriCorps members will be assisting in the development and delivery of regional environmental education programs and service projects for area schools, home school groups, and community members...
The West Valley Outdoor Learning Center (WVOLC) is a teaching and learning facility for students and teachers in grades Pre-K through High School.
The mission of the West Valley Outdoor Learning Center (WVOLC) is to give students and our community opportunities to have experiences in an outdoor setting while instilling an appreciation for fish, wildlife and natural resources.
The WVOLC achieves its mission by creating engaging, scientifically sound education and outreach programs for people of all ages.
The WVOLC annually reaches between ten and fifteen thousand students and community members in Spokane and neighboring counties through various educational programs.
One of our outreach programs is the Hawk and Owl Outreach Talks (H.O.O.T.), which introduces student and adult audiences to the incredible world of raptor adaptations.
This program also looks at different roles that specific raptors play as ecological indicators.
Critical habitat issues and species of specific concern are also addressed.
Students are given opportunities to see our live educational birds of prey up close and build personal connections to wildlife.
The goal of these programs is that through experiences with wildlife and by making connections with their natural environment, young people will gain an appreciation and a deeper understanding of the need for a sustainable future.
Be the change that kids and adults experience with the natural world, while building memories.
