Job Overview
The Grenfell Health and Wellbeing Service is seeking to recruit an Arabic-speaking therapist
Are you an Arabic-Speaking Clinical or Counselling Psychologist/CBT therapist/Counsellor/Systemic Psychotherapist or Psychotherapist who is passionate about working with individuals, families and communities who have been affected by trauma and grief?
We would particularly welcome applications from people who have lived or worked in the local North Kensington community, and who reflect the diverse local population that we serve. In particular, we currently need an Arabic-speaking therapist.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for clinicians who are able to work effectively with people from a range of backgrounds, who are skilled in adapting evidence-based therapies for the needs of clients, and who work in a creative, community-centred, culturally sensitive way. You will provide a valuable liaison role between the team, other agencies and members of the affected community... building and maintenance relationships with local Community groups and organisations along with statutory services also working with the North Kensington community. This will include developing co-produced projects around mental health and wellbeing in partnership with multi-disciplinary colleagues, residents and 3rd sector organisations.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
Clinical:
• To provide specialist, accessible and culturally sensitive psychological assessments, in Arabic and English, of clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care.
• To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s mental health difficulties, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
• To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions, in Arabic and English, for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
• To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
• To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
• To provide specialist consultation, as appropriate, to local organisations and referring GPs about psychological aspects of care for people with PTSD, complex trauma or traumatic bereavement.
• To contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings and agencies serving the client group.
Person specification
Education And Qualifications
Essential criteria
• * A recorded/registered qualification in one of the following: counselling, systemic therapy, arts therapy, a psychological therapy or psychology doctorate
• * Further post graduate level diploma qualification training in a psychological therapy which may be CBT, EMDR or another appropriate evidence-based therapy (i.e. IPT) to at least equivalent of a post graduate diploma
• * Accreditation with the relevant professional body (e.g. BABCP)
• * Post-qualification experience of delivering trauma-focused CBT (TFCBT) and/or EMDR
Desirable criteria
• * Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology
• * Post-qualification training in the provision of specialized areas of CBT or another evidence based Psychological Therapy (e.g. long-term medical conditions or with older adults)
• * Knowledge and experience of working with complex bereavement and adjustment disorders
• * Knowledge and experience of delivering Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) or other trauma-focused interventions
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
• * Experience of working in a Psychological Therapy (e.g. IAPT) service
• * Experience of operational management and service development within a Psychological Therapy (e.g. IAPT) service
• * Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across a range of physical and mental health conditions and across care settings, including community, primary care and in-patient settings
• * Experience of working in a culturally sensitive and adapted way
• * Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
• * Experience of working in adult mental health services
• * Experience of working in a multi-cultural context including with interpreters
• * Experience of interdisciplinary working within the NHS
• * Demonstrate further specialist training/experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a Therapist over a minimum of 2 years, or an alternative agreed by the Chief Psychologist
• * Experience of supervising trainees within a clinical health service
• * Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision of staff from a range of clinical backgrounds
Desirable criteria
• * Experience of organizing services to meet commissioning targets and operational objectives
• * Experience of the application of evidenced based psychological therapy to different cultural contexts
• * Experience of carrying out psychometric assessments
• * Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision in trauma-focused CBT and/or EMDR
• * Experience of delivery of psycho-education and skills training in individual and group format
Skills And Knowledge
Essential criteria
• * Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
• * Ability to provide consultation and therapy in Arabic
• * Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
• * Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
• * Post-Qualification practice of, and skills in an evidence based Psychological Therapy and full accreditation with the relevant professional body
• * Evidence of continuing professional development
• * Formal training in supervision of other psychologists and IAPT practitioners
• * Proven ability in carrying out clinical audits
Desirable criteria
• * Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialized psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups (e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnoses, people with additional disabilities etc.). High level knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies
• * Experience of leading and carrying out research projects and interpreting data using statistical analyses
• * Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health

Essential criteria
• * Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings
• * Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour
Desirable criteria
• * Experience of working within a multicultural framework
• * Ability to deliver therapy in additional languages
• * Knowledge of the area and residents of Kensington and Chelsea
