Position Overview

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering has an opening for a dynamic Experienced Naval Architect/Engineer in our Construction Engineering Services (CES) Group. The ideal candidate will be a part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing structural calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe.

Our Construction Engineering Services (CES) Group consists of innovative design engineers whose expertise in designing and building temporary structures adds value to the success of our clients’ projects. Additionally, CES provides on-site engineering and coordination support through leading and collaborating with Kiewit’s construction teams.

Our CES group supports design-build tasks that include: Bridge erection & demolition, Cofferdam design, Critical crane lifts, Erection sequencing & staged construction analysis, Hoisting and jacking, Deep foundations and dewatering, Excavation support, Marine engineering, Pile drive analysis, Ductwork analysis, Falsework design, Temporary bridge & trestle, CES estimate support, Working surface design, On-site engineering support.

Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering (KIE) is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of our company that offers a variety of services, including temporary and permanent design services for current projects and new project pursuits in the United States and Canada. Our design services group offers expertise in structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, and materials disciplines. Our engineering group is responsible for engineering assignments in support of Kiewit’s construction projects in both the United States and Canada. As part of the engineering group, you will have the opportunity to work with other structural and geotechnical engineers, members of our interdisciplinary engineering team, as well as estimators, schedulers, and construction experts to provide advice on construction methodology, risk, and the design of temporary works.

This position can be based out of our Lone Tree, CO office or Seattle Area offices.

• Perform design reviews and evaluate constructability. Independently performs work that requires conventional engineering but may also perform more complex engineering work with higher level technical supervision. Conduct technical evaluations of structural analysis and load calculations to ensure the sound design and compliance meeting requirements.
• Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
• Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements.
• Design and prepare engineering reports and related documentation, and devises charts and graphs to record results.
• Utilize computers including the Microsoft Office Suite for reviewing and compiling information for data entry and transferring files and electronic/digital scans. Experience in maintaining, organizing, tracking the status, and prioritizing engineering documents (both physical and electronic records).
• Resolve technical issues and manage information generated through the design and construction phases of multiple and concurrent projects. Work requires a broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and a good knowledge of and practices of related specialties carried out by others.
• Work closely with junior and senior engineers to research compliance specifications and technical design issues including, but not limited to, ship’s structures, hydrostatics, stability, and seakeeping, to report findings and to recommend possible solutions.

• Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or related field is required.
• Marine background and experience is required.
• Professional Engineer licensure or eligibility within the United States
• 5+ years is preferred marine/naval engineering experience preferred.
• Ability to analyze and interpret technical drawings, industry journals, documents & regulations such as ABS, Lloyds, DMV etc..
• Specific technical knowledge of hydrostatics, vessel stability, and structural analysis
• Ability to evaluate vessel structural adequacy and stability, to include cranes on barges and transport of construction equipment and permanent structure components, probabilistic analysis to determine design wave heights and exceedance, motion analysis and design of lashing/seafastening, etc.
• Experience with engineering design software will be an advantage; this includes AutoCAD, BlueBeam, MathCAD, Navisworks, RISA-3D, General HydroStatics (GHS) etc.
• Experience with working in a team setting
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with individuals at all levels of the organization
• Strong inter-personal skills and an ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
• Ability to organize and handle multiple project assignments

Base Compensation: $110,000 - $155,000

(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
