Position Description

As a Senior Naval Architect in Bechtel Energy CSA-Offshore-Marine team, you will assist in the conceptual studies, Pre-FEED, FEED and detail design of floating platforms and FPSOs, Module Sea transportation analysis. Under direct supervision, you will perform or support stability analysis, motion analysis, module dimension and weight control, mooring system design, development of marine operating manuals and other offshore related activities.

Responsibilities

Work includes, but not limited to:
• Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work for a global business unit usually in one discipline in a project or staff group.  Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and/or difficult coordination requirements
• Plans, coordinates or prepares offshore vessel / barge or work specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations for vessel / barge.
• Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
• Coordinate technical issues with other departments on projects including constructability requirements and reviews.
• Plans and coordinates independent work requiring judgment and experience in the application and substantial adaptation of engineering techniques. Devises new approaches to technical problems.
• When delegated, assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks.
• Assists in on-the-job-training of assigned personnel and provides input for their performance evaluations.
• Prepares letters to vendors and clients.
• Reviews bid analyses and makes recommendation.
• Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
• Performs or assists in the performance of problem analysis and original design.
• Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
• Reviews and checks work of subordinate engineers.
• Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
• Prepares Sea transportation design criteria
• Performs Sea routing selection and voyage planning
• Develops Module Yard Quay and Jobsite MOF suitability study
• Provides Acceleration and motion analysis
• Prepares Simply Fatigue assessment inputs (wave and wind cycles and stress level)
• Performs Stability analysis in sea transportation
• Provides Barge and towing vessel selection
• Provides Load-out and load-in support
• Performs Ballasting/de-ballasting and mooring analysis
• Prepares Grillage, sea fastening and stowage design
• Performs Module and barge interaction (reaction, deflection and twist and impact on module design)
• Provides Sea transportation support (meteorological and metocean data monitoring, sheltered areas identification, etc)
• Supports Barge/Tug towing power review
• Reviews HAZID and HAZOP in sea transportation

JOB KNOWLEDGE
• Thorough knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations.
• Understands the application of Engineering Department Procedures, relevant Bechtel design guides.  Broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.
• Understanding of engineering planning and control methods including computerized methods.
• Understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including basic construction practices and the economics involved.
• Understanding of industry or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the offshore engineering.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

Qualifications And Skills

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• BS / MS Degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering or closely related field is required, higher is plus, with 8+ years relevant experience.

Minimum Qualifications
• Experience related in floating systems within the offshore oil & gas industry is required.
• A professional license in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board.
• FEA modeling skill is a plus.
• Seeking an individual that is self-motivated, with good organizational and communications skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team is essential.
• Software Skills: SESAM (or MOSES), GHS, SACS, SafeTrans, StaadPro.
