JOB SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Design Engineer based in our Alpharetta, Georgia office will be responsible for the design and documentation of lithium-ion material handling (i.e., Motive Power) batteries products and assembly tools...
They will be responsible to design, to develop, and to enhance Motive Power products optimized for cost-effectiveness, reliability, efficiency, and durability.
The candidate will report to a mechanical engineering team and be part of a multi-disciplinary project team to develop products and systems for a wide range of applications for the Motive Power product category.
SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assess a design brief to gauge the design requirements.
Conduct and/or use research on user experience and needs, current market trends and general functionality.
Develop solutions that solve user problems.
Determine whether a design solution is user-friendly, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly.
Create 3D CAD models of complete system design prototypes using SolidWorks CAD tools.
Document mechanical parts and assemblies using SolidWorks per company engineering standards.
Conduct rigorous usability tests and modify the product based on the test results.
Evaluate design solutions against industry standards and regulations.
Vendor development support.
Technical Data Management:
Capability to manage and control configuration of technical data in SolidWorks PDM.
Bill-of-material (BOM) creation and update.
Implementing technical data management within the requirement of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
BS in Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum 3 years of experience in mechanical design A minimum of 3000hrs using SolidWorks and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Good understanding of mechanical principles, tolerances, and strength of materials.
Basic understanding of electrical systems and circuitry.
Experience using GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2009 is considered an asset.
Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills.
Creative and ability to work autonomously and part of a team.
Comfortable and competent working with high energy systems is considered an asset.
Experience managing UL or other certifications a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in current manufacturing processes including weldments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT (include physical requirements):
Office work, product development, and manufacturing environments.
Very little travel may be required between facilities.
