General/Business Unit Manager (CEO & General Management)

Seeking a guiding star as our General Manager Claims Operations

At Star Insure, we relate our success to our people and our products. To continue operating at our high standards, we're seeking a General Manager to focus on a critical area of our business; Claims and Assessing.

Our Claims and Assessing business units are the heart of our business. We must meet and delight our customers' needs with our service. We need a strong leader who will integrate into our business to review and refine current processes, develop and establish new processes and platforms. You will lead, manage and work with our Head of Claims & Recoveries and Head of Assessing & Salvage and their subordinates to drive the overall Claims and Assessing business units in the same strategic direction as our overall business.

What the role involves

This position is about carefully balancing the competing pressures of doing everything we can to manage our... customers' expectations subsequent to a loss they have incurred, along with meeting our business needs of controlling our insurance loss ratio. If this role performs well, we know we will have control over our attritional loss ratio while continuing to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction.

The General Manager of Claims & Assessing will oversee a business unit currently employing 25 people across Auckland, Tauranga, Hamilton and Manila. You will test the current structure, suggest & discuss refinements at the governance board level and once agreed, implement them. You will have both direct and indirect reports. You will demonstrate a strategic mind but also be detailed enough to be able to develop and implement tactical solutions.

The successful candidate will have a proven ability to manage, motivate, encourage, delegate and lead from the front and be a person of action. The role will involve some tough conversations. The person we're looking for will be a person of their word and a person of integrity.

This role is part of the executive team and will join the CEO, CFO, and Sales/HR Manager reporting monthly to the Star Insurance Governance Board.
