Ubuntu has become a reference open source platform for many industries, companies, semiconductor companies and clouds. It is a central pillar of modern enterprise open source. Many companies want to work with Canonical to drive specific capabilities or features in Ubuntu. Those engagements need to be defined, effort estimated, and work delivered.

This role is for a strong technical *and* commercial leader to run the engineering estimation and engineering execution, as an overlay across our entire engineering organization.

Our Engineering Director, Commercial Engagements is responsible for commercial engagements across our product engineering organisation, to act as leader, coach, standard-setter and expert, to advise and assess our management ability in commercial engagements in every product and every team.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of the dynamics of commercial conversations, and able to represent both Ubuntu and Canonical... They will also have the ability to develop relevant skills in engineering directors and managers across the organisation, and facilitate cross-team planning, estimation, tracking and reporting by those leaders.

This is a cross-team leadership position; individual managers and directors are accountable for their own estimation, project tracking and delivery, but this role is to provide best-practice leadership, coaching, advice, assessment and strategy in the organisation.
